Fire Protection Services

Shasta Lake Fire Protection District (SLFPD):

The Shasta Lake Fire Protection District provides fire protection and emergency response services within the city limits, including structure and vehicle fire emergencies. Law enforcement services in the City of Shasta Lake are provided through a contract with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, ensuring the safety of citizens and property.

As the primary responder to fire and medical emergencies, SLFPD operates three stations staffed by a committed team that includes:

  •     1 Fire Chief
  •     2 Battalion Chiefs
  •     3 Captains
  •     3 Engineers
  •     Multiple volunteers

On average, SLFPD responds to approximately 1,500 calls annually, the majority of which are medical emergencies.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) – Wildland Fire Protection Agreement (WFPA):

In March 2020, the City of Shasta Lake, in collaboration with SLFPD, initiated a request for Cal Fire to prepare a Wildland Fire Protection Agreement (WFPA) to enhance fire protection personnel and resources within the city. Each WFPA operates on a one-year term, from July 1 to June 30.  The WFPA would make Cal Fire resources available for incidents inside the coverage area immediately on dispatch, which is expected to substantially reduce the time for fire suppression personnel and resources to arrive on scene.

The City Council approved the initial WFPA in 2020, with subsequent agreements approved annually. Under this agreement, the City funds the WFPA, while SLFPD assumes all other responsibilities as the designated “local agency,” as defined in the WFPA. Additionally, the City and SLFPD entered into a Cooperative Agreement to clearly delineate these roles and responsibilities.
