The City of Shasta Lake received $2.49 million in funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) in response to the COVID pandemic. City Council appropriated $100,000 of the ARPA funds to support local non-profits and designated the remaining $2.39 million to fund parks and recreation projects. An extensive community outreach effort was conducted, and 5 projects were selected for funding:

New skatepark facility at the Civic Center Campus
New lights and expansion of Lassen Field at Bizz Johnson
New disc golf course behind Bizz Johnson Park
New picnic pavilion at Margaret Polf Park
Completed walking path around the Civic Center Campus




The City was awarded $1,753,000 in Caltrans Clean California grant funding for the Community Parks Revitalization Project. The project includes revitalization of two park sites creating clean, functional outdoor spaces for the community to gather and access recreation opportunities. The project will include the following:

Picnic pavilion and restroom facility at the new skatepark

Community Spirit Parkway at Civic Center Campus

Replacement of existing pit restrooms at Margaret Polf Park with flush restrooms and septic systems

Volunteer park cleanup day


The City was awarded $2.5M in grant funding through the California Housing and Community Development Department's (HCD) 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. The project will include replacing outdated playground equipment, playground surfacing, and amenities at seven public parks within the City. This includes Akard Park, Claire Engle Park, Wynne Price Park, Blue Canyon Park, Shasta Park, Margaret Polf Park, and Bizz Johnson Park.
